Investor KITAS
What is the Investor KITAS Visa?
Investor KITAS should be your primary visa if you want to keep track of your investments in Indonesia. Investor KITAS, as its name suggests, is a type of temporary visa intended for foreign investors to manage their business in Indonesia more conveniently.
Previously, following BKPM regulation No. 6 of 2018, foreign investors had to create a Working KITAS to be able to manage their business in Indonesia. This regulation certainly does not benefit investors, because they have to dig deeper into their pockets to get a work permit, which in fact can cost up to 1200 dollars per year.
2019 saw a revision to this rule, allowing foreign investors to apply specifically for Investor KITAS without needing to apply for a work permit or Working KITAS.
There are two types of Investor KITAS:
- C-313: one-year validity
- C-314: two-year validity
Benefits and Restrictions of the Investor KITAS
Apart from the costs being relatively cheaper than Working KITAS, Investor KITAS also comes with a variety of other benefits:
- Multiple-entry permit, meaning you can enter and leave Indonesia more than once.
- The validity period is much longer compared to several other types of visas, especially Working KITAS.
- Extendable depending on Investor KITAS you choose: four times for C-313 (a year each extension) and three times for C-314 (a year each extension).
- Opportunity to work in Indonesia if you are the Director of a PMA that you founded or own.
However, with all the benefits available for you, Investor KITAS still have restrictions that you must pay attention to. One of them is the scope of work that you can do.
If you are a Director of a PT PMA company, you are permitted to work while holding an Investor KITAS. This is stated in Minister of Manpower Regulation No. 10 of 2018. However, if you are a Commissioner, you do not get this privilege and only have a residence permit for a specified time (one or two years).
Investor KITAS Requirements
According to the BKPM Regulation No. 5 Year 2019 which is an amendment of BKPM Regulation No. 6 Year 2018, you need to serve as Shareholder and Director/Commissioner in the company to apply for an Investor KITAS.
From that, you need to provide these documents to process the Investor KITAS:

- Copy of passport with minimum validity of 18 months for 1-year KITAS and 30 months for 2-year KITAS.
- Two passport sized photos (4 cm x 6 cm) taken with formal attire in a white background.

Frequently Asked Questions About Investor KITAS
In addition to the KITAS application fee, working KITAS requires you to pay a mandatory fund of $100 per month or $1200 annually. Contrarily, Investor KITAS doesn’t charge an additional fee, saving you approximately $1200 for a C-313 KITAS or $2400 for a C-314 KITAS.
Not only that, you will receive a validity period of up to 2 years, which is longer than the maximum validity of a Working KITAS, which is only 1 year.
You can obtain an Investor KITAS if you are a Director or Commissioner of a PT PMA company, or even someone that holds no position in a PMA company but has personal shares of the regulated minimum which you can see here.
You can extend your Investor KITAS depending on the type you select. C-313 Investor KITAS can be extended four times while the C-314 Investor KITAS can only be extended three times. Each extension is valid for a year period, giving both types a maximum validity of five years.
