What is the Family KITAS Visa?

Family KITAS or Spouse KITAS (Index C-317) is a type of Indonesian visa granted for foreign individuals who intend to join their families in Indonesia. The visa is valid for a period of one year, and can be extended four times, giving you a total stay permit of five years.

However, marrying an Indonesian citizen is not the only condition to obtain this visa. This permit is also eligible for:

  1. A family who want to join their relative or family member with a valid Working KITAS. For instance, a husband has a Working KITAS and he wants to take his family to Indonesia, then he may apply for a Family KITAS. In this case, he serves as a sponsor for his family. The family can remain in Indonesia as long as the husband’s visa is still valid.
  2. Children born from a legal marriage with an Indonesian citizen.

Family KITAS is also a multiple-entry visa, allowing the holder of this permit to freely enter and leave Indonesia without having to apply for a new visa.

Lastly, you can apply for a KITAP after three years of holding a KITAS. KITAP allows you to stay in Indonesia for five years and can be extended indefinitely.

Benefits and Restrictions of the Family KITAS

There are many perks you may obtain from a Family KITAS:

  1. A stay permit of up to five years
  2. An Indonesian ID or KTP (Kartu Tanda Penduduk), and eligibility to become an Indonesian citizen
  3. Ability to obtain a driving licence, Indonesian bank accounts, and credit cards
  4. Eligibility for property joint ownership with your spouse.

Despite all the benefits we listed earlier, the purpose of this permit is only for a limited stay and not for work.

We will separate the document requirements into two categories. First, when a foreigner marries an Indonesian spouse; then, when a foreigner’s family moves to Indonesia.

  1. National passport having a minimum validity of 18 months
  2. Two pieces of colored photograph (4 cm x 6 cm) in a white background
  3. Marriage certificate translated into Indonesian by a sworn translator, except in English
  4. A letter of application from Indonesian spouse
  5. Bank account statement with minimum balance of at least 2000 USD
  6. (Optional) A Certificate of No Impediment (CNI) if the marriage took place outside Indonesia.

  2. Copy of ID Card or Kartu Tanda Penduduk (KTP)
  3. Copy of Birth Certificate or Akta Kelahiran
  4. Copy of Marriage Certificate or Akta Nikah.

Family KITAS Application

Application Process

You can apply for this visa both in Indonesia (onshore) or outside the country (offshore). If you are already in Indonesia, you can jump to step 4:

 

  1. Prepare all the required documents and we will verify them for you.
  2. Next, we will submit your documents to the online immigration system for e-visa application.
  3. Once the visa is issued, you will receive an e-visa and you may now enter Indonesia using that e-visa.
  4. Upon arrival in Indonesia, contact us to schedule your passport pickup.
  5. We will then submit your passport to the immigration, and you will need to do a biometric session later.
  6. Within three to five days, the KITAS will be issued, and we will bring both the KITAS and your passport back to you.

Frequently Asked Questions About the Family KITAS Visa

The owners of this visa are not allowed to work in Indonesia. However, if you get offered a job and you intend to work for an employer, you can apply for a Work Permit while keeping your KITAS, which essentially becomes a working KITAS visa.
