Remote Workers Visa (E33F)

What is the Remote Workers Visa (E33F)?

In recent years, the concept of remote work has gained widespread popularity, allowing individuals to work from anywhere in the world. Indonesia, recognizing the global shift towards remote work, finally introduced the E33F Remote Worker Visa to welcome foreign professionals seeking to work from the enchanting island of Indonesia.

Remote worker visa (E33F) is the closest we get to a digital nomad visa. It has a validity period of a year, allowing foreigners to stay and enjoy the beauty of Indonesia while working remotely in the country.

Based on Regulation of the Minister of Law and Human Rights No. 22 of 2023, the visa is strictly targeted for foreigners with employment at a company based outside Indonesia – meaning, you’re not allowed to work for a local company since it’s going to take a whole new visa, i.e. Working KITAS.

Benefits and Restrictions

The remote worker visa comes with a range of benefits, such as:

  1. Work from paradise: enjoy the beauty and culture of Indonesia while maintaining your livelihood, working remotely from anywhere in Indonesia.
  2. Great validity period of a year: longer than your usual single entry visa and cheaper, with no requirement for a sponsor to create one.
  3. Connect with like-minded professionals and explore potential business collaborations with Bali’s growing community of remote workers.

While the E33F visa opens the door to a plethora of advantages, it’s essential to be aware of certain limitations:

  1. The visa strictly prohibits engaging in local employment, ensuring that remote workers do not replace local employees.
  2. There’s a minimum proof of yearly income of at least US$60,000.

Frequently Asked Questions

Remote Worker Visa (E33F) is a specialised visa introduced by immigration in 2023 to facilitate foreign professionals working remotely from Indonesia. The visa is a testament to the government’s commitment to attracting skilled individuals and fostering a conducive environment for remote work.

Remote Workers Visa (E33F) allows you to work remotely in the country for a period of one year. We haven’t found any additional information about an extension for the visa, but given the vast number of people interested in it, it is likely that it is extendable for the same length of time as its initial validity period.

Digital Nomad Visa has been a topic of conversation for quite some time. Finally, in August 2023, the government issued the closest thing we can ever hope to a Digital Nomad Visa called the Remote Worker Visa (E33F).

It has a long validity period of a year. We have not yet found any information about an extension, though there’s a high chance that it’s extendable. The purpose of the visa is also very specific, to accommodate remote workers to live and work remotely in the country for a certain period of time.

From Sabang in the far West to Merauke in the far East, you’re eligible to work everywhere in the country. Most remote workers here stay in Bali as it offers a mix of cultural and natural paradise and many great places to work. There are also many remote workers communities in Bali, which can help people connect, share experiences, and build a supportive network.

  • A passport that is valid for at least 6 months.
  • Proof of living expenses of at least US$2,000 or equivalent.
  • The latest coloured photograph.
  • Proof of annual income of at least US$60,000 or equivalent.
  • Work contract with a legal entity outside of Indonesia.

Holders of Remote Worker Visa are not required to pay an income tax to the Indonesian government. However, you may be obligated to pay tax in your home country. Apart from the tax, the living cost in Bali is relatively cheap, with food prices going as low as a dollar (USD) and plenty of lodgings close to beautiful beaches and other retreats.

It depends on so many factors. Location independence, visa duration, cultural experience, adventure and exploration, and work-life balance are just a few of the considerations you should make when applying for this visa. But given the anticipation around it, we can assure you that it’s worth your penny. The Single Entry Visa is the closest option accessible right now. It is half the length of the Remote Workers Visa and allows you to live and work remotely in the country.

Work remotely, yes. However, applying to a local company is off-limit for this visa. If you’re keen to find a legal job from a local company, you have to apply for a Working Visa.
