Working KITAS Visa

What is the Working KITAS Visa?

Working KITAS allows foreign individuals to legally work and earn a living in Indonesia. The list of professions includes expert or professional, inspector or auditor, prospective foreign worker who will undergo a skill qualification test, and many more. See the full list here.

Working KITAS is valid for a period of 6 months to a maximum of 12 months depending on your application. While the 12 months KITAS is extendable up to 4 times, the 6 months version cannot be extended.

Benefits and Restrictions of the Working KITAS Visa

The Working KITAS Visa comes with a lot of benefits, including:

  1. Multiple-entry permit, which allows you to enter and leave the country more than once.
  2. Allows you to open bank accounts, pay taxes, get a mobile phone, etc.
  3. Extendable depending on which version you choose.
  4. The opportunity to convert the KITAS to KITAP (Working Visa with validity of 5 years).
  5. The holder can act as a sponsor for Family KITAS application.

Despite these advantages, Working KITAS remains one of the strictest KITAS available. There are some requirements you must meet before applying for one, such as:

  1. Working KITAS is issued for a specific position in a certain company. That means, you can only work to the company listed in your KITAS.
  2. As its name suggests, you can only obtain Working KITAS after employment.
  3. You must have a sponsor, which is your employer.

Working KITAS Requirements

As the only KITAS that allows foreigners to generate income legally, the government has laid strict requirements for obtaining a Working KITAS. Those who want to work in Indonesia must meet some specific requirements such as educational and competency certificates, as well as knowledge and skills transfer to their local counterparts.

And since Working KITAS involves two parties, namely workers and employers, the requirements session will be divided into two parts.

Applicant Documents

  1. Copy of passport with minimum validity of 18 months for 1-year KITAS and 12 months for 6-months KITAS.
  2. Two passport sized photos (4cm x 6cm) taken with formal attire in a white background.
  3. Copy of Curriculum Vitae.
  4. Copy of Degree/Diploma.
  5. Description of Job Title.
  6. Bank account statement with minimum balance 2000 USD.
  7. Detail information of applicant such as email address, phone number, address in Bali, area of work, and occupation.
  8. Sponsor and Guarantee Letter.

Sponsor Documents

  1. Copy of Article of Association and Amendments (Akta Pendirian & Perubahan).
  2. Copy of Business License (Izin Usaha/SIUP).
  3. Copy of Company Registration Number (NIB or Nomor Induk Berusaha).
  4. Copy of Domicile Certificate (Surat Domisili).
  5. Copy of Tax Identification Number (NPWP).
  6. Copy of Deed of Establishment & Amendments (SK Kumham & Perubahan).
  7. Copy of Indonesian ID Card (KTP)/Passport/KITAS of Company Director.

Working KITAS Application

  1. Provide all required documents and we will verify them to ensure a smooth, successful application.
  2. Documents will be sent to the Ministry of Manpower to obtain RPTKA and IMTA. RPTKA and IMTA are two primary documents that will allow you to work in the country.
  3. Along with the application of a work permit, you will need to pay for DPKK or skill and development fund to Ministry of Manpower. The fee is $100/month for the duration of your visa. For instance, if you opt for the 6-months KITAS, you’ll then have to pay 600 USD or 9,000,000 IDR.
  4. After the Ministry of Manpower issues an approval for RPTKA and IMTA, they will submit those documents to the online immigration system for an issuance of your e-visa.
  5. You can now enter Indonesia using this e-visa.
  6. Upon your arrival in the country, you will need to bring us your passport and show up at the immigration to do a biometric session where they will take your photos and fingerprints.
  7. If everything goes as planned, you will get your passport and Working KITAS within 3-7 days.
  8. Within 30 days after your KITAS issuance, register yourself at the local Civil Department to obtain SKSKPS and STM. See the FAQs below for more information about the two.

Frequently Asked Questions About Working KITAS

RPTKA, which is the abbreviation of “Rencana Penggunaan Tenaga Kerja Asing”, is a document used by a company to issue the needs of foreign workers. IMTA or “Izin Menggunakan Tenaga Kerja Asing”, on the other hand, is a permit for foreign individuals who want to work officially and legally in Indonesia.

Not only that, you will receive a validity period of up to 2 years, which is longer than the maximum validity of a Working KITAS, which is only 1 year.

SKSKPS is basically your temporary family ID in Indonesia. STM, on the other hand, is a sign that local police officials have acknowledged the arrival of a foreign citizen and will guarantee his/her safety during his/her stay in Indonesia.

The sponsoring company and your occupation are stated in the KITAS, so you’re not entitled to work in another company, nor to get another job outside of your current occupation.

Your sponsor is a company, registered within Indonesia. It could either be a Foreign Owned Company (PMA), a Representative Office, or an Indonesian Owned Company (PT).

The best time to start an extension is a month prior to the expiration of your Working KITAS.

Working KITAP is similar to Working KITAS, with a few differences. First, the validity is 5 years, which is five times longer than KITAS. This means that you no longer have to extend your visa annually as you only need to do it once every five years. Second, one of the main requirements is to hold the same sponsor for 4 years in a row. Once you do that, you can convert your KITAS to KITAP.

You may be subjected to several punishments, including hefty fines (1,000,000 IDR per day), detention, or even deportation. The worst is blacklisting, which will prevent you from coming into the country again.
